Ed Jew Who Are You

So here is the story that is far more intriguing than Gavin Newsom’s indiscretions. Ed Jew has skipped town for China….for now. Don’t worry though, his lawyer says he will be back to sort out the confusion. So far, the FBI raided his City Hall office and found $20,000 in cash and Ed Has claimed political naivete in accepting the money, alleged payment for a consultant, not Ed himself. As a matter of policy the FBI does not disclose any information about ongoing investigations, so we are all free to wildly speculate.

Is Ed Jew guilty of shaking down minority-owned businesses for help obtaining permits they would probably get anyway? Did he use his elected office as a way to extort money even though he appears to be a successful businessman? So far this part of the story reeks of mafia tactics, demanding money from small businesspeople. Is Mr. Jew the Chinese godfather or just a pawn in some bigger game? Maybe he’s not even real, Ed Jew could be a robot. A Robot Spy who is to infiltrate a position of leadership in order to destroy our economy.

Not so fast, Mr. Jew, we’re on to you.

Does he actually live in the district he claims to represent? Not according to the neighbors there. Since his wife and daughter live in Burlingame, maybe he lives there. Not so, say the neighbors there! Maybe he spends his time gambling away the family fortunes… maybe. Robots don’t need sleep, or relationships as far as we know. So he wouldn’t be at all bothered by leaving his wife and daughter alone so often. He just plugs in or gets a tuneup or maybe brews beer. Bender drinks beer, so maybe Jew’s a drunk. That’s certainly not an original excuse in the political world.

Maybe he has a massive coke problem and spends his time with different prostitutes. Oh that’s terrible, people shouldn’t say things like that. People shouldn’t abuse positions of power either, or cheat at sports, or pollute the environment, or treat each other poorly. Ed Jew has given new life to the Chronicle, each day is a new story, alleged revelations, trust funds, and not enough conjecture. Now the medical marijuana dispensary that leases their space in one of his buildings is being evicted for not applying for the necessary permits. Irony!

We all hope Ed Jew is innocent and we are watching this story develop and enjoying it every step of the way. We hope you are too.

We Love Our Customers

This is a fun quote and an important concept from Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart. “There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else.”

Reminds me of my college economics classes, where the general rule was that a happy customer tells only a couple people how happy they are conducting business with a particular company but an unhappy customer tells everyone. We would like to encourage all our customers to please tell us if they are unhappy and why, and please tell everyone else if you are happy with us!

Mr. Green Jeans

The Green Revolution is upon us. Green is the new black. Green Green Green. The UCSF Medical Center had an Earth Fest today coinciding with Bike To Work Day. Everyone was out learning about nature and how to reconnect with nature and leave a smaller ecological footprint. My grandparents didn’t say “ecological footprint.” Start the revolution, plant a tree. Or a garden, or ride a bicycle, or brew your own beer. Spent grains make great compost after you reconnect with a ritual as old as agrarian civilization.

Who will win Gavin Newsom’s bicycle? Helmet included, complete with hair gel. The Mayor has been a fan of bicycling for a long time now and has participated in the annual Bike To Work Day and bicycle he rode today is being raffled off to help raise enough money to chase those two whales out of Sacramento. Sac should be used to overweight tourists by now!

Healthy Saturdays

A congratulation goes out to the City of San Francisco for allowing a section of JFK Drive to be closed to automobile traffic on Saturdays. A larger section has been closed to auto traffic on Sundays for years. In fact, it shows up in guidebooks as one of the things to do if you are in town on a Sunday.

For anyone who has ever been through Golden Gate Park on a Sunday, it is a completely different experience. Parents teaching their children to ride bicycles, rollerbladers, bicycles and pedestrians everywhere, and…..silence. No engines to be heard. This may seem minor until you realize how loud city life is and also what your idea of a park is. All week long Golden Gate Park is simultaneously a throughway for local traffic and home to many enticing attractions. On Sundays it becomes a noiseless wonderland and now Saturdays will be the same urban oasis.

San Francisco is of course not the only place in the world experimenting with car-free spaces. The question this begs is “what is the definition of park?” And also, “what should be the use of public space?” Everyone has a different opinion, right? We live in a democracy and still enjoy freedom of speech and movement, mostly.

So what is your definition of a park?
